a little update

Postby Rane018 » Wed Jul 31, 2002 7:18 pm

there may be another one later tonight. depending on whether my brother passes by or not... hope you like....

************************

“Tara?” Xander called out as soon as he recognized the approaching figure. “What are you doing here?” he asked as he set the last log of firewood over the bonfire’s base.

“I, um, snuck out.” Her eyes scanned the empty bonfire area. It was twenty minutes past ten and the field was eerily empty. “W-where’s everybody?”

He smiled softly with what he believed she was really asking, ‘Where’s Willow?’. “Tonight’s evening activity of Family Feud ran a bit overtime and so I’m figuring Willow’s still getting her campers ready for lights out. They all are.”

Tara chuckled lightly at his quick call, “And you?”

“Oh, I’m just here getting everything ready for the bonfire. As usual.”

She nervously played with her hands as she watched him head over to one of the benches that held a small backpack. “Y-you do this every night?” she inquired trying to control her stutter.

“No, we're supposed to take turns. I tend to take the most turns though.” He said as he took out a box of matches and replaced the bag on the bench. “It’s what happens when you’re everyone’s treadable butt monkey.”

“Butt monkey?” The perplexed look on Tara’s face showed she didn’t really want to know how he got that nickname, so she simply half smiled. Then, quickly, her eyes darted everywhere but him. She couldn’t believe how nervous she was talking to Xander.

Xander Harris was not someone she’d ever had a proper conversation with, before or after she’d met Willow. Even that week she’d been at camp last year as part of his and Oz’s group. All she knew of him was based on all the Willow stories she’d been privied to. She knew there had to be more to Xander than the wisecracking, always having to be rescued, loyal as a puppy kind of guy Willow described him as. She knew there was a reason to Xander’s non-serious attitude about life. She knew that he’d suffered a lot as a child of alcoholics and many of his childhood experiences made him who he was. She liked the fact he hadn’t let his family life restrict him. He still had a life, friends, he still had that joie de vivre that he didn’t let be taken away from him. Not like her. Not like she had after her mother died. Not until she found Willow.

Pretty soon Xander’s voice brought her out of her contemplation. “The fire's not cooperating.” He said as he tried to light the firewood again. “I think this wood is made out of water. It's comforting to know I lack the culinary finesse of a caveman and yet I’m running the kitchen this summer. ”

Watching him struggle and noticing a couple of used matches on the ground by his shoes already, Tara whispered under her breath, “Ignis incede” and lit the bonfire with a loud, bright swoosh.

Xander jumped back on the ground flat on his bum at the bright display, “Jeebus! I must have overdone it with the lighter fluid.”

Tara’s eyes widened at the powerful blast. Inwardly she chastised herself. She knew she was nervous, emotionally unbalanced enough to have that easy spell almost go all kablooey on her girlfriend’s best friend. She knew better than to perform magick when she wasn’t calmly composed.

His heart rate back to normal, Xander rubbed his dirty hands over the back his jeans as he stood up. “Wow, what a spectacle, eh?” Tara simply nodded again, but her blue eyes looked troubled.

He still felt guilty about everything that had happened with Willow. Looking back on it he knew he'd had handled it all wrong. He couldn't help it though, it had been a huge secret to have been left out of. But he knew he'd done the same thing with Cordelia. However, that fact didn't make him feel any better about it all.

After a few moments of uncomfortable silence he carefully chose his words. “Can I ask you something? It’s kinda personal.”

“Y-yes?”

“Do you… love her? Willow.” As if he needed to further explain whom he was talking about. “Are you in love with her?” Tara’s concerned face slowly nodded.

He knew she did. It was blindingly obvious. He could see it when they were together. He knew when he saw Willow. She glowed. Both of them glowed. He sighed before finishing his point, “Please don’t break her heart. She’s my best friend and I don’t like to see her hurt.” He’d had enough of that, especially when it was him who’d been at fault.

Tara quickly shook her head, “I would never hurt her.” She couldn’t even think of it. Never.

“I know. Deep down I know you wouldn’t but… things happen. Things like August 14th.” He remorsefully voiced.

August 14th was a day she dreaded, never had a date filled her with such anguish. She thought about that date at least twice a day and it pained every time. Tara knew that was the day they would all be heading back to Sunnydale. Back home, back to their real lives. Continuing on with college, with the Scooby gang. The day she would be left behind. The day her heart would be broken.

“And Tara I’m also worried about you.” He mentioned sincerely. “I know you’re in love with her and once you fall for Willow you stay fallen. I should know.” He sheepishly added.

The realization of his admission dawned on her but before she could respond a couple of Camp Flutie staff members arrived and broke up their conversation. As soon as Tara turned around, wanting to go home, not wanting to see the beautiful face of the redheaded angel that would eventually abandon her, she heard her voice. Her wonderfully sweet voice calling out her name.

“Willow. H-hi.” She smiled sadly as she turned to face the love of her life. Her eyes quickly rushed to the ground, she couldn’t even bare to look at her.

Noticing Tara’s insecure behavior she asked, “Are you ok?” her hand lovingly caressed Tara’s arm.

“Can w-we go for a walk?” the blonde asked still not looking at her.

“What’s wrong?”

“Can we just get out of here, please?” Her eyes finally connected with Willow’s.

Willow could hear the urgency of her voice, she was struck by the sadness in her eyes as well. Shocked mute, she simply nodded.

Jen- HUGS!!!! You are so cute, just like ellie… hehehe…

Toni- have fun in vegas, baby! As for posting part two on your site I’d rather you wait until it’s all written and I’ve gone over it again and edited it. Posting the chapters here is like a platform I’ll use when I beta it again.

Ghostwriter- thanks for reading honey. :) I’m glad you’re liking it.

Willowsgrrl- drooling is fine, mandatory actually. ;)

Lonewolf!- hey you. How are you doing sweetie? Done with school yet? Hehe… glad you’re loving the fic.

Singgirl- lol, harassing for updates won’t work. trust me. I’ve tried harassing my muse, even tried tying her to my bed but whenever she decides to write is when the thread will be updated.

"She has magic fingers." Then, as though the words had just echoed back to her and sounded not at all right, she perked up and glanced around at the others. "On the keyboard." Tara, The Wisdom Of War...

Ugh. I am sort of dreading this walk.

Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.

Tara: Willow, I got so lost.
Willow: I found you. I will always find you.

Willow: Hi, um Tara. I was wondering maybe you want to go out some time for coffee? food? Kisses and gay love?

So maybe Tara needs to, like, transfer schools or something? Or she could squeeze into Willow's camp trunk or one of those really big duffle bags.

I like the urgent/mute exchange at the very end.

LQ- Willow sure will. Hehe…

Rose- don’t dread. It’ll be all right. it always will be. this isn’t the biggest bump yet though so hold on tight.

Ghostwriter- I kinda have an idea of how it’ll all work out. lol… I hope other will like it too.

Tulipp- Tara doesn’t go to school, just Willow and Buffy. Willow would need a big duffle bag. I’ve always thought about that. just recently I asked someone heading over to England if I could sneak in their bag.

Funkyasia- yeah, most people don’t think about camp ending. It’s like interminable when you’re going through it and then suddenly it’s the last day of camp and the two months went by blinkingly fast.

Forever piper- yeah I forgot to mention I lifted dialogue from that ep. I’m usually so good about disclosing my plagiarism. The next update will also have dialogue from other eps, Real me and such… it’s almost ready…

Ten ten- you are the sexy thing you! How do I make you want more? Hehe… I could come up with too many naughty replies to that. I’m even blushing right now. Lol…

Next update in a bit! Woo hoo!!!!

That was a sweet scene. I've been watching old Buffy eps from early seasons and Xander seemed so much more real back then. Not sure what happened to him. Anyway, I like what you did with him here.

I trust that Willow will put the considerable brain power at her disposal to work on the little problem of finding a way for Tara to be with her in Sunnydale?

Great update as usual.

Awww... Poor, Tara. Why did Xander have to go and bring up that subject, even though she DOES need to talk to Willow about it. I wonder what will happen on their walk? Will Tara move back with Willow or vice versa?? Now I'm all sad thinking about this, Rane! :cry Need that update, soon!!!

******************

Having walked in silence for about three minutes Willow’s patience was running thin. She needed to know what was bothering Tara. Now. She’d never seen her like this, so pensive, so quiet. If it hadn’t been for the strong hold Tara had on her hand Willow would have thought Tara was mad at her, that she wanted nothing to do with her anymore.

Glancing quietly at her lover she couldn’t help but wonder what she was thinking about. She uttered the first thing to pop in her mind, “Xander! Was it Xander? Did he say something to you? What did he say?”

Although some of her many thoughts revolved around the boy she couldn’t help but deny it, “No.”

“Did you have problems sneaking out?” She wondered aloud. Every night she worried Tara would get caught and be grounded by her stern father. It was something she dreaded.

Tara just shook her head, her long hair wildly flowing across her face.

The suspense was killing her, Willow couldn’t take it anymore. “Tara, stop. Look at me. Please.” she said as she halted and stood in place. Tara was tugged back towards her, never having let her hand go. “What’s going on?”

Tara’s eyes were filled with tears and ready to gush, “It's just hard,” her throat ached, “All of this.”

Willow’s heart dropped upon hearing Tara’s fragile tone. “What is?” she asked as she gently reached out and cupped her heavenly face within her hands. What was she talking about? Sneaking out? Being with her? Was that hard? It wasn’t hard for Willow. Loving Tara was the easiest thing in the world.

“The outsider feeling.”

Willow eyed her a moment, “Tara, you're not an outsider.” She said a bit relieved that Tara was not thinking what she’d been thinking. Oh how that would have just crushed her.

She quickly kissed Tara’s full lips, her cheeks, her nose, her wet eye lids even. She held the blonde’s body close to hers after wrapping her arms around her tightly.

A small smile spread across Tara’s face as she sniffled the tears away, “Well, yah. Kinda am.”

“No. No, you're not.” Willow’s tone was adamant. She even shook her head for emphasis.

“Will, it's okay. You’ve all known each other for so long, gone through so much. You guys all just have this really tight bond. It's hard to break into that. I'm not even sure I want to.”

“I'm sure.” Tara could see Willow meant it. Trying to reassure her, Willow’s fingers softly caressed Tara’s face. “Did Xander say something? Sometimes he can be an idiot.”

Tara giggled at the innocent way Willow called her best friend an idiot. She knew she didn’t mean it in a mean way. “Xander’s a sweetie. And we were just talking. We’ve never, you know, really talked. Not that we talked that much tonight anyhow.”

Willow grinned at the disclosure. If Xander had spoken to Tara then probably wasn't still angry at her. She knew Xander would never be purposefully impolite to Tara but she’d still feared it. All the Scoobies had a tendency to stick their foot in their mouths at the wrong times. “See, you're completely one of the gang now. Everyone accepts that.”

Tara slowly nodded. It was true, it seemed all of Willow’s friends accepted her and their relationship. But she also knew Xander was right, she knew no matter what happened she’d end up breaking Willow’s heart. Just like hers would be. “But the gang is leaving. Soon.”

The blaring reality of that statement pained Willow. “Tara, no. Please don’t think about that.” Pulling her closer still she urgently kissed her. Looking deep into her eyes she added softly, “Don’t say that.”

Tara could feel her frail body shaking a bit. “Willow…”

“No, listen to me. Tara, you can’t think about that. It’ll just drive you crazy. I’ve thought about this enough for the both of us. You only live two hours away. I can come see you. I can visit. And you can visit me and sleep over and see Sunnydale. I’ll take you everywhere. I’ll show you everything.”

The desperation in Willow’s voice was overwhelming. Even though she knew it would be nearly impossible for her to ever be allowed to visit Sunnydale, she agreed to it. “Ok.”

“I mean it, Tara.” Willow accentuated.

Tara looked within those eyes she loved dearly. “I know.”

“We still have three whole weeks. And we’ll make the most of the time we have together. We have to. Starting right now.”

“Right now?” Tara asked, a coquettish smile spreading over her features.

Willow knew exactly what she was getting at. “I think I recall someone saying there was more than one gift during today’s gift giving session. A session that was interrupted before said second gift was given.”

Tara giggled again, “Speaking of gifts, where’s your bracelet?”

Willow moved slightly away from Tara to bend over, her hand reaching down towards her ankle. She gently pushed down her pink kitty shapes filled sock to reveal the bracelet. “I’m afraid of losing it. This way it’s being guarded by my sock.” She mentioned as she looked up at a smiling Tara.

“Good idea.”

“I thought so.” She replied as she came back up, her eyes scanning the blonde’s shapely legs encased in tight blue jeans. Before she fully stood she playfully bit at one Tara’s breast, careful not to bite too hard on the nipple.

The blonde jumped back as a fit of laughter racked her body. “Willow!”

Willow’s hand quickly grabbed Tara’s and drew her close, “Couldn’t help myself.” She said as she leaned over and fondly kissed Tara’s neck.

Tara’s arms enveloped the redhead. “I love you,” she voiced as her fingers wandered up into red hair.

Although Willow’s mouth was now affectionately kissing Tara’s collarbone, she suddenly stood up straight. “Tell me again”, she told piercing blue eyes.

Tara looked at her, intensely intimate, “I love you, Willow.”

Coming from those lips those four words meant the world to her. “I think we need to find a place were we can be alone.” Willow’s sensual tone wasn’t unnoticed.

“We are alone.”

Willow lightly rolled her eyes and smile. Tara watched the redhead scan their surroundings and noticed they had wandered off to the western edge the camp near where the staffers huts were.

“Gazebo?” she suggested, motioning with her chin to the structure a few feet away. Willow then nodded, basically agreeing with herself. “Looks safe. All the staff should be at the bonfire and we can sneak in the smoochies.” She said as cupped Tara’s hand and led her towards the gazebo.

“A gazebo? Are you trying to turn me on?” Tara teased.

“I have to try now?”

“Well, you can bite my other nipple.”

Willow abruptly turned over towards her girlfriend. “Tara!”

“What?” she innocently asked, “just trying a little spicy talk.”

Postby VampNo12 » Thu Aug 01, 2002 1:09 am

Sweet updates Rane! I felt for Tara in the first part, she sneaks out to be with Willow, and Xander (although he meant well), turned Tara's excitement into sadness. August 14th is a date that both W&T are dreading, but I liked Willow's reassurance that not only is Tara not an "outsider", they will find ways to be together (ie visit, although I felt for Tara when realization hit her that with her family visiting is almost an impossible undertaking).

I liked how Willow wants them to make the most of the time together count (ie starting with a little fun in the gazebo ;) ) And I loved Tara's "spicy talk", with her saying ("Well, you can bite my other nipple. :lol ). I could so picture Willow's face being a mixture of pure shock, as well as arousal. Can't wait for the next part!

jen, this little update's for you. lol...

Postby Rane018 » Thu Aug 01, 2002 1:11 am

***********************

Running up the steps of the gazebo, hands held tightly together with mischievous giggles loose in the air, Willow and Tara found themselves face to face with two horrified campers. Two half naked horrified campers. Two half naked horrified campers and one of them was Willow’s.

“Jenn?!” Willow screamed out loud. She quickly held up her hand, blocking her eyes from seeing her camper topless.

“Willow!” the fifteen year old scrambled to put her bra back on while the boy was quickly drawing up his pants. “What are you doing here?!” she demanded as she quickly clasped her bra and threw a sweatshirt over her upper body.

“Me?!” Willow took offense to that, “You’re supposed to be in the cabin! Sleeping!... Justin?” she asked the boy once she finally got a good look at the cabin number five camper after he’d finally pulled up his pants of course. It took him two tries since the first time he accidentally toppled over his own legs and fell down.

Tara’s eyes were still glued to the floor of the gazebo. She was trying hard to stifle her laughter, a sly smile crossing her mouth as she bit her lips with her teeth.

“I’m sorry, Willow,” he said as he covered his torso with his shirt. “Please don’t tell Percy you caught me out here. He’ll make me clean up all the toilets with my toothbrush.”

Willow knew Justin wasn’t kidding. She knew his counselor Percy, she’d tutored him in high school. He was an ass if ever there was. "You know, you’re not supposed to be out here. Neither of you.” She said pointedly as she stared at her camper.

“Well, you aren’t either. You’re supposed to be at the bonfire.” Jenn crossed her arms over her chest in defiance.

Willow’s mouth was agape. “Why you little-“

“Ok,” Tara quickly interrupted her fearing what Willow would say, “You two head back to camp. Now. And no one will get in trouble. Ok?”

Jenn looked over at Willow and sighed, “Fine. Let’s go, Justin.” She said as she turned to leave.

Justin was still holding his head down in embarrassment. His eyes slowly gazed up to Willow’s. “I’m really sorry. It was all her idea. I didn’t want to come here at all. But she said you all wouldn’t be out here.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t tell Percy, Justin. This time. Just get her back to the cabin ASAP.”

Appreciative of her words, Justin smiled shyly, “Thanks.”

As Willow and Tara watched the two teens head back to the camp soft giggles erupted between the two of them.

Rane you are an updating fiend tonight :) ! This last part just cracked me up. I guess finding Jenn and Justin half-naked kinda put a damper on W&T's passion. And I loved when Willow told them they weren't supposed be at the gazebo, Jenn came back with "Well, you aren't either.". Glad Tara interrupted before Willow said something she might regret, and I am kinda looking forward to Jenn's reaction to Willow the next time they see each other. This part really made me smile/laugh!
