It's Time For A Concert Thursday MKF! 10/24/02

Off the concert topic, I have a question about this EZboard update business. I'm in the middle of tinkering with my signature (so that it no longer looks as though it is having a seizure at the bottom of all my posts) and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a font list? I would kind of like to put my new sig in something more formal and scrolly looking (eh, some days I just have to acknowledge my inner prissiness).

Any help here would be appreciated...thanks!

caged heart, don't feel bad - my first concert was New Kids On The Block, too! I had such wonderful taste in music when I was 10. :)

Most memorable concert: hmm, that'd probably be James Taylor at the Amphitheatre in Nashville, TN. He kicks ass. It's sad, but I went to more concerts when I lived out in hicksville and had to drive for hours and hours to get to a decent-sized town. Now I'm in the so-called Music City, and I never take advantage of it. Shame on me.

I went to Tori Amos' very first major concert ever following the release of "Little Earthquakes". It was in a tiny little theater in Maryland and this show was a precursor for her tour. I sat next to her dad in the front row and I can tell you, she had me speechless the whole time. I was in complete awe. She was so personal with her audience and you could see her dad was proud (I was a little nervous with some of the language in her songs because her dad had his minister's collar on....I felt so weird that he wasn't at all fazed by it). She was gracious, kind and giving and it was such a rarity that I felt very touched by the whole experience. Those going to her concerts in the near future, you are SO in for a treat :grin

My first real concert (I was a late bloomer) was Tori Amos' [i:3cdd18a476]Little Earthquakes[/i:3cdd18a476] tour in San Francisco. Dear gods that woman was wonderful! Haven't seen her since, alas, but my hopes are still alive. She is and remains one of my musical heroes.

The first concert I ever went to was a Korn / Rob Zombie concert and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had and by far my favorite concert.
Ive since seen Korn (3 more times), Limp Bizkit, David Usher, Papa Roach, Edwin, Elton John, Deftones, Jann Arden, and A Perfect Circle,

As for festivals... Ive been to Edgfest two times, Summersault once, and a few of the local May 24 racetrack 3 day concerts where wannabe rednecks drink beer and set each others cars on fire.
By far the worst experience for me was at Woodstock 99. I will never forgive myself for buying those tickets.

Now for Willow and Tara. I could possibly see them going to some pop music singers concert like Brittany Spears... just to amuse themselves.
More so I picture them attending a festival together where they can appreciate the music from afar while shopping around at the various booths for charms and other cool collectibles.

Ok, my first would be the Beach Boys when I was but a small child (well, a child anyway) and my two older sisters took me. And they were good actually, not the sad travesty they would be now.
Best ever? I could never pick just one. Here's a few that I won't forget: King Sunny Ade (many in audience in african tribal costume coming to the stage to paste money to his sweating forehead in tribute, and he deserved it too), Black Uhuru (the original lineup plus Sly and Robbie- stunning), The Clash (twice- once with Gang Of Four), The Buzzcocks, Patti Smith, Penetration, both the Dils and Rank And File (both led by the Kinman brothers, Rank And File also with Alejandro Escovedo),the Screamers and the Contractions and the Jam,more recently; Lucinda Williams, Neko Case, and many many others. Next up for me is the Donnas (for the third time) and then Tegan and Sara (for the second).
And for W/T? Well, they would have loved Lillith Fair (i went all three years) but since that's no longer an option - well, i'd like to picture them smiling and bouncing with joy at a Tegan and Sara concert. So I will.

I'm very envious of Michele. She used to shoot photos and do interviews for a newspaper, so she'd get backstage passes handed out to her. Anyway, she got to meet Amy and Emily like 10 times! Yes, Indigo Girls! AHHHHH!!!! She said Amy always remembered her, and I asked, "So, why the hell aren't you still working for that newspaper!?" Ok...best concerts...um..they were all terrific, so I'll just name a few:

-Lilith Fair '98 Albuquerque, NM...Front row..yeah baby! Indigo Girls, Shinead O'Connor, Sarah, K's Choice, Liz Phair, Natalie Merchant
-Ani @ Red Rocks..the ultimate venue! Yeah baby!
-Sarah McLachlan and Lisa Loeb @ Kiva Auditorium...third row center
-IG @the Mann in Philly '00. Amy did Romeo and Juliet and Cedar Tree. And all my fav Emily songs!
-IG @ Musikfest '01. fourth row center! yeah baby!
-IG and K's Choice this past May at the Mann. Y'know, cus I'm such a whore for IG and K's Choice. *sigh*
-Shawn Colvin @ Paoli Soleri Ampitheatre in Santa Fe a few years ago...sat front row...bout 8 feet from her. yeah baby
-Garbage @ this little club in ABQ

My first concert?...um...Brooks & Dunn w/ my mom in '93.

My 1st concert was actually back in 2000. It was the KROQ Weenie Roast here in L.A. It was amazing. Not only was it on my birthday but also I got to see my favorite band KoRn.

Epicurus Im so envious. Youve seen them what 4TIMES. Damn. Very cool. Very cool indeed. I still hope to get a chance to see them in November at Long Beach. The line-up at the Weenie Roast was amazing. Heres a quick list:

1. KoRn (SeenTwice)
2. Creed
3. Everclear
4. Godsmack
5. Incubus
6. Stone Temple Pilots
7. Limp Bizkit
8. Cypress Hill
9. Third Eye Blind
10. Moby
11. Lit
12. No Doubt
13. The Offspring
And Last But Not Least
14. Black Sabbath (Special Appearance)

Since then Ive seen Rob Zombie, Rammstein, System Of a Down (Twice), Slipknot, Mudvayne, Metallica, Kid Rock, Greenday and The Living End. What can I say I like my Hard Rock Music. I see it this way. Its the only therapy I can afford. Hehe Dont get me wrong I love all kinds of music. Especially Live Music. I plan on seeing Which Ones Pink a Pink Floyd Cover Band at the WHISKEY Nov.3rd. Cover Bands can be very cool too. I find it amusing that the same person that listens to someone like KoRn can also find someone like Michelle Branch just as good to listen to. Im weird like that I guess..

I think W&T like the Jam-band thing....there was a String Cheese poster in the Dorm room I think.

My own 1st concert was the Grateful Dead (seems popular on this thread) @ the Boston Gah-den in 1977. I was fifteen & went on to see them over 50 times - saw Jer at least another dozen & Phil 'N Phrends a whole bunch. Am going to see The Other Ones on Nov 19th.

The best shows I've ever seen thou - have been rockin' affairs such as:
1990 - Fabulous Thunderbirds & Roomful of Blues @ Avalon - Boston
1997 - Allman Bros. @ The Orpheum in Beantown - Warren Haynes just ROCKS!
1994, 1998 & 2001 - Brian Setzer Orchestra, Paradise Rock Club, Boston & Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel, Providence, RI
2000 - Lupo's - The Reverend Horton Heat
1999 - Lupo's - The Amazing Crowns
2000 - Foxwood's Casino - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
1997 - Boston FanPier Pavalion - Buddy Guy

Im exactly like that! (as you can tell by my concert list above)

Whats interesting is attending a concert in a stadium filled with half naked, drug smoking young people and 2 weeks later watching a bunch of crazy adults dancing and singing along to one of the greatest piano players in music history.
It really makes you realize that no matter what type of music you listen to it has the same effects on everybody. They just have different ways of finding their groove.

"Epicurus" You are so, so right.

It wasn't until it was brought to my attention how diverse my taste in music was that I even realized how unique it was as well. I find it's rare to find someone like that.

Music being something so very important to me, it's nice to be able to share a "KoRn" concert with my crazy, insane yet very loveable cousin whom I love very much and at the same time find the beauty and joy in the music of someone like "Chet Baker". Very cool indeed.....
