For Immediate Release
[b:353f4f51e3] ONLINE COMMUNITY RAISES THOUSANDS FOR THE TREVOR PROJECT[/b:353f4f51e3]
October 11, 2002 In response to a recent fundraising drive in support of The Trevor Project, a non-profit organization which runs the nations only 24-hour suicide prevention hotline for gay and questioning youth, the online community has donated more than $8,000 towards the organizations life-saving work. [b:353f4f51e3] The Kitten, The Witches and The Bad Wardrobe[/b:353f4f51e3] Message Board (
kittenboard.com) launched the initiative on August 1. Members of the community created as a discussion forum for fans of lesbian couple Willow and Tara on the hit television series Buffy The Vampire Slayer were spurred into action following the untimely murder of the character Tara last season.
Before the Willow and Tara relationship, gay people had no true representations of themselves on the screen, thats why for two-and-a-half years people invested enormously in the show, said xita, spokesperson for the Kitten Board. Following Taras murder, board members felt compelled to do something positive in support of the millions of young people who, in real life, continue to struggle with issues surrounding their sexuality. The response was overwhelming and we are overjoyed that we were able to make a difference by supporting the work of The Trevor Project.
About The Trevor Project . . .
The Trevor Project is a nonprofit endeavor created by the maker of the Academy Award-winning short film TREVOR to promote tolerance for gay and questioning youth and to aid in suicide prevention among that group. In 1998, the Project launched The Trevor Helpline, the first round-the-clock, national toll-free suicide prevention hotline for gay and questioning youth. The toll-free number for the Helpline is 866-4-U-TREVOR, and it is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Statistics have shown that gay teens are three times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers, and The Trevor Project strives, through its efforts of promoting tolerance, to prevent some of those tragedies from occurring.

The Trevor Project people a bit about Tara being a TV character. They did not want any to think that it was a real person or worse, that Amber, had been murdered.
This went out to close to 100 different PR wires and news media agents, including much of the gay press and entertainment press. Basically they tried to get everyone.
I hope that helps.
Jorge Valencia has mentioned many, many times that the Kittens are "angels" and "life savers" and that we will always hold a place of honor in the eyes and hearts of the people that run the Trevor Project.
They have their Cracked Christmas 5 coming up on December 8th where represenatives from the Kitten will be the guests of honor (including a full page thank you to us).
